10 February: The Destructive God

Today’s chapter shows that the destructive power of the Creator God isn’t limited or selective. Instead, He holds it in check using boundaries…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Understanding the force that stands between us and oblivion
Understanding the force that stands between us and oblivion

Before our Michael died, he gave us the Indescribable DVD[a], by Louis Giglio. I recommend that you listen to what Louie says about the enormous power of the Creator God at work in creation, because it gives context to today’s chapter. In fact, I’d say that unless you get the full impact of Genesis 1, and the open universe that we’re floating in, you won’t understand the power of the word “Now” at the start of v5 in today’s chapter.

“Now… after everything that you’ve seen unfolding since January 1st; after the explosive power that lit up the universe when I said, ‘Let there be light’[b]; after you saw My enormous constructive energy channelled into creative order, then My destructive power in the global flood; after you saw Me effortlessly unravel human language at the Tower of Babel, then use the cosmos to bring destructive judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah; you witnessed Me harness the elements to bring down an ancient civilization while, at the same time, I bore up My people on eagles wings [v4] …Now then…  now that you know who I AM …if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession and special treasure among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. Now… these are the words that you shall speak to your sons…” [v5-6]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that’s within me, bless His holy name. [Psalm 103:1]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for the people of Afghanistan[d]
  • Your Country: Those persecuted for their Faith
  • Yourself: Better use of your treasures
  • Your concerns for today
Whatever prayer or supplication is made by any one of us, each knowing our own affliction and our own pain, and spreading out our hands toward You, then hear, Lord, from heaven Your dwelling place. [2 Chronicles 6:29-30a]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Help me to remember that, from ancient times, You commanded me to observe all Your statutes and to fear the Lord my God. This is for my good always and for my survival, as it is to this day. [Deuteronomy 6:24]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Lord, help me to remember the attitudes of those of old: …to live is to be like Christ, but to die (die to self/desire/grasping and holding on) is great gain. [Philippians 1:21]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[e] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year! THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Topic = The Creator’s Will

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to walk in.” [Ephesians 2:10]

  1. I always think that we (humans) are to a great extent ‘doubting thomases’ and I know that God knew/knows that. He knew that He couldn’t just do one thing/one miracle and we would believe. It’s almost like He said, “I created the world and you did not believe, I made the floods and still you did not come”. It’s amazing that He has done so much to prove Himself and still there are those that do not believe. I will obey His voice and keep His covenant as I want to be His possession and special treasure amongst all peoples.
