A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
When my husband began earning money, his Dad told him that there are two halves to this world: the half who lend money and half who borrow it. If one half lives off the other half, he asked: “Which half do you want to be in?” It was one of those life-questions that didn’t require an answer but instead, a life time of action. Mark brought this philosophy to our marriage, instilling it into our children. But there’s one place where I’m literally submerged in debt and I can’t dig myself out! In dire straits, I’m bankrupt and unable to ‘wipe my own slate clean’. It’s the debt on my account that I hold with my Maker: the account of the life that He invested in me.
Although the Bible warns us ahead of time that nothing will save me on The Day when ‘my debts are called in’[a], my Father God has provided me with free credit. The proof of this free debt solution, dates back in HIStory to the days of a man named Abraham who, by faith, trusted the Creator God. In response, he was credited with righteousness (right-ness with God).[b] In this same way, the Creator God has provided me with the sort of righteousness that leads to LIFE – if only I have faith like Abraham and believe in my Maker’s promises.
