08 June: Cashing in a Blank Cheque

Today’s chapter shows just how all-encompassing and just how free and available is the access to the Creator God’s good graces.…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

After years of replaying old videos, technology overtook us and we finally had to say goodbye to our old video machine. One family classic, that brought enjoyment to our Michael in particular, was the 1994 Disney movie “Blank Check”. In a catalogue of mishaps, a kid is handed a blank cheque. He then completes it and cashes it in for a million dollars…

Today’s chapter is long and takes time to read, if you want to really take it all in. This is because of how extensive King Solomon’s prayer is for including everyone on the planet!  The significance for me today (as someone who can’t trace my lineage to the Jews), lies in three verses at the centre of the chapter:

“As for the foreigner who does not belong to Your people Israel but has come from a distant land because of Your Name— for they’ll hear of Your great Name and Your Mighty Hand and Your Outstretched Arm…Do whatever the foreigner asks of You, so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your Name  and fear You…” [v41-43]

It’s as if a “windfall” has hit and all people everywhere have just received a blank cheque signed by their Maker, Father God. No one is excluded from the extensive richness of His GRACE. All can freely come, with their Maker’s offer in their hand and – just as Israel has done from the beginning of the story[a] – we can ask to redeem it! Unbelievable!! But what about your thoughts – can you tell me what today’s “breadcrumb” is? Leave a note in the “Comments” box below to tell me what you think of today’s chapter.

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I will proclaim Your Name, O Lord, and praise the greatness of my God! You are my Rock. Your works are perfect and all Your ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just are You. [Deuteronomy 32:3-4]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

As for me, a foreigner who doesn’t belong to Your people but has come from a distant land because of Your great Name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm—when I come and pray toward Your dwelling place, then hear from heaven and do whatever I asks of You please, so that all the peoples of the earth may know Your Name and fear You, as do all Your people. [2 Chronicles 6:32-33]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

My desire is to do Your will, my Lord and God. Your law is written on my heart. [Psalm 40:8]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

May I stand firm, Lord. Let nothing move me. Help me to always give myself fully to the work of the Lord, because I know that my labour in the Lord is not in vain. [1 Corinthians 15:58]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[e] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year! THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Using our Gifting
