A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
From what I can see, reality TV and modern TV shows, like Desperate Housewives, are all about idle people getting involved in idle gossip. Things seem to deteriorate from there with more issues created and, somehow, it’s a hit TV show! But when I first read the words in today’s chapter: “…they get into the habit of going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also busybodies who talk nonsense, saying things they ought not to…” [v13], I thought, “Good grief! This first century Jew is a total sexist!” Then, a still small voice inside asked, “Are you sure he’s not speaking the truth?”
I had to admit that he’s probably right. If it is true that “…The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not obvious cannot be hidden forever….” [v24-25], then I think that Paul’s message, in today’s chapter, is more than relevant, even 1,950+ years after he wrote it! It encourages me to switch off the TV and to keep active, creating opportunities not issues…

THE LORD’S PRAYER:
1. Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

Your concerns for today
Now, Father God, hear the prayers and petitions of Your servant. [Daniel 9:17]
3. Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”
When I sin against You, Lord, justice is far from me, and righteousness can’t reach me. Without You, I look for light but all is darkness; for brightness, but I walk in deep shadows. [Isaiah 59:9]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”
Return to me, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine[d], the root Your right Hand has planted, the Son that You’ve raised up for Yourself. [Psalm 80:14-15]
“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”
