26 July: Hidden Messages in the Cosmos!

If you’re wondering at all whether there is a divine being out there somewhere behind everything you are facing, today’s chapter reveals hidden messages in the cosmos…

READ PSALM 19   Make notes of what stands out for you. Please feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

I am intrigued to hear how the greatest minds on earth have utilised their abilities for searching the cosmos for signs of life. If there had been a Big Bang, then catching up to faint echoes of it would be evidence. If something is alive out there, sooner or later we’ll surely hear their sound.  After decades of meticulous scanning, it seems that only the stars can be heard.

If an artist is known by his art, a musician known by his music and a sculptor by his sculptures, then the Creator God is surely known by His creation. Far from hidden messages in the cosmos, today’s Psalm uses words such as the heavens ‘declare’; the skies ‘proclaim’ [v1]; they ‘pour out speech’; they ‘reveal’ knowledge [v2]; their voice ‘goes out into all the earth’. [v4] So if you are searching for evidence of any sign of divine being, can I encourage you to look up and look around because “it has been since the creation of the world that His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made so that we are without excuse.”[a]

Thank-You Lord, that You are the God who hears my prayer. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers – the moon and stars, which You have commission with roles, I can’t help but wonder what is humankind that You have a thought for us – the children of humankind that You care for us? [Psalm 8:3-4]
  1. Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”
Now Father, help me not to ‘stiffen my neck’ like those gone by. Instead, help me to yield to You and to enter Your dwelling place and family and serve You, Lord my God, so that Your burning anger may turn away from me. For You, Lord God are gracious and compassionate. You’ll not turn Your face away from me if I return to You. [2 Chronicles 30:8-9]

God of Peace, thank-you for cleaning and correcting me entirely. May my spirit, soul and body be preserved complete without blame, when the coming of Our Lord takes place. [1 Thessalonians 5:23]
