21 February: What Makes God Tick?

Today’s chapter holds the key to everything when it comes to what it is that the Creator God really wants…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

The Deific Agenda
The Deific Agenda

The Plan from the very beginning of time – from the very first page – seems to be that our Maker has only ever wanted mankind to live in His likeness – image-bearers on earth to be like Him.[a]  After it all went pear-shaped, He changed tack to focus on one person who would produce a nation to be like Him. But this was always only a stepping stone to His global agenda.[b]  The Plan is to restore things back to the point where it all went wrong – back to a place of divine relationship and blessing.[c]

If I can get my head around that, I’ll be able to get my head around everything in this ancient storyline from Genesis to Revelation, including some of the most horrific parts in HIStory – such as v4 and v16-26 in this chapter. For those who want to believe in His Plan, we can be…

“a holy people to the Lord our God who have been chosen to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth”. [v6]

It’s this relationship – based firmly on love and faithfulness – that our Maker has kept on oath. This He swore to our forbearers. I know this to be true on a personal level, because He brought me out from the house of slavery by a mighty hand and outstretched arm. [v8]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

It seems good to me to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. [Daniel 4:2]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • Your concerns for today
Thank-you Lord that You’ll continually guide me. You’ll satisfy my desire in scorched places. You’ll give strength to my bones. Then I’ll be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters never fail. [Isaiah 58:11]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

You Lord are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness. [Psalm 103:8]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Thank-you Lord that whoever overcomes will be clothed in white garments. You will not erase his name from the Book of Life but will confess his name before Your Father and before His angels. [Revelation 3:5]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
