12 March: Gluten Free

I’m amazed that virtually everything in life carries warnings. With the rise in allergies from milk, eggs, nuts and wheat, even a seemingly healthy diet, at surface level, carries hidden problems…

READ MARK 4  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

Having a gluten intolerant friend has made me realised the vast array of lovely stuff that has to be cut from your diet, if you’re to be gluten free. I don’t give a second thought when driving passed wheat in fields. But afterwards, it’s incredible just how much can be either made with wheat, or else it needs wheat product to make the recipe work, or taste nice.

The Unrefined Basis for a Complex Future
The Unrefined Basis for our Complex Future

In a series of parables (stories), in today’s chapter, Jesus uses wheat to explain who I am in Him. Using the seed of my DNA, imagine if my only job in this life, was to ensure that I take root in the right soil. [v1-20]  Whether asleep or awake, the quality of the soil is essential for the scope of high-capacity grain. [v26-29]

In many ways, my life today can be filled with a sort of undigested gluten, clogging up what my Maker originally planned for me… inside. I need to start cutting from my synthetic, man-made,”life expectation” diet, to be more spiritually gluten free. That is to say, I am today the unrefined basis of my complex and eternal future. But all that the Creator God needs, is the smallest of seeds that trusts fully in His power, in order for His Harvest Plan for me to come to fruition.    1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I’ve seen Your power and Your glory at work in Your dwelling place, Lord. Your love is better than life and, because of that, my lips will glorify You! I’ll praise You as long as I live, and in Your name, Lord, will I lift up my hands. [Psalm 63:2-4]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, Lord, yet Your unfailing love for me will not be shaken nor Your covenant of peace be removed. You have compassion on me, O God, because You know what I’m made of. [Isaiah 54:10]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

I repent of my part in cultivating wickedness, Father God. I pray to You, Lord, in the hope that You’ll forgive me for having such thoughts, even in my heart. [Acts 8:22]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Thank-you Lord that You fight for me; I need only to be still. [Exodus 14:14]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
