04 October: Claiming Compensation

When we’re badly advised, cheated or wronged (without so much as an apology), we can be tempted to seek retribution. But today’s chapter gives an upside-down approach to my rights

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

After a walking accident, the surgeon broke off a 3.6cm drill bit in my husband’s kneecap while trying to mesh his severed quad muscle back onto his knee joint. In recovery, they told Mark that lots of people have metal in their bodies, and it shouldn’t give him any cause for concern. Three years on, Mark still has swelling every day in his knee, and he still can’t kneel down on it. He’s being referred to another hospital.

In a world that puts “our rights” at the top of the list, today’s chapter gives an upside-down approach to my rights. Although I don’t take people to court [v1-6], I claim and exact “compensation” everyday in varying ways through my behaviour and attitude towards others, until I get an apology and my equal rights recognised. But my Maker’s Handbook for LIFE gives an upside-down approach to retaliation and claiming compensation. [v7] Why?… Even my body belongs to my Maker [v13], and I’m one with Him in Spirit. [v17] Because I’ve been bought at a high price, I want to now honour my Creator with my body. [v20] It’s the difference between surviving (by going from one fight to the next) and thriving…

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

I’ll praise You, O God, for Your mighty deeds and for Your answer to prayer. Shout joyfully to our God, all the earth! [Psalm 66:1]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Homeless and poor in the Philippines[b]
  • Your Nation: Your country’s involvement in world affairs
  • Yourself: Deeper love for the Lord
  • Your concerns for today
My heart’s desire and my prayer to You, for those I care about, Father God, is for their salvation. [Romans 10:1]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Thank-You for being willing to make an everlasting covenant with us, Lord God, that You’ll put the fear of You in our hearts so that we’ll not turn away from You. [Jeremiah 32:40]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

Help me, Lord, to never turn my ear away from listening to Your Law. If I do, even my prayer will be detestable to You. [Proverbs 28:9]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”
