25 October: Path to Enlightenment

With every angle covered these days, when it comes to “paths to enlightenment”, today’s chapter shows that there’s no easy shortcuts…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

We humans today, are often in search of, and offering solutions for, a “Path to Enlightenment”. The problem is, we focus on external light yet avoid shining light on ourselves – especially when there’s no need for inner change. Selfishness, for example, is at the back of most interpersonal conflicts. [v3] If unselfishness brings harmony, most would agree that people who shine, are often those who are nice, kind, and giving. [v4-5]

So, if I’m to look for LIGHT today, one place is in light of what Jesus did for me. He proved Himself in history, not just as different from any other prophet from the ancient past and opposite to people around Him at the time [v6-8], but also proving Himself to be exactly opposite of satan.[a] So, if I can take any encouragement from being “united with” the One who came to us voluntarily; if any comfort from His love; if any common sharing in His Spirit; if any tenderness or compassion [v1]; then, surely, the path to enlightenment begins with being like-minded with Him. [v2]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations! Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. [1 Chronicles 16:28]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…

  • Your concerns for today
I pray to You, Lord, in the time of Your favour. In Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. [Psalm 69:13]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Help me not to make bad choices, Father God, so that justice is far from me, and righteousness doesn’t reach me. If this happens, I’ll look for light, but all will be darkness. I’ll look for brightness, but I’ll walk in deep shadows. [Isaiah 59:9]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

It’s with my heart that I believe, and are justified. It’s with my mouth that I profess my faith and am saved. [Romans 10:10]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen!”

When questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, Jesus spoke what was previously written in God’s Word.[d] So, the final section on this page is about memorizing the script through 10 topics.
