If you’re thinking that you’re seriously hopeless, this chapter will address the theory of hopelessness…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Peter, in today’s story, is a perfect example of the futility of any human finding “good” within ourselves. He may have known Jesus earlier. He certainly lived and slept and ate with Jesus for three years. But right when Jesus needed his friends most, Peter denied on oath that he didn’t know the man. [v72] I think that “sin” has to top the charts! Yet within days, Peter (and the others who ditched Jesus that night) were restored, forgiven, and eating with Jesus again.[a]
For those who follow this epic storyline, as our Maker addresses head on the hopelessness and futility of human “righteousness”, there’s now no-one whose actions can be so absolutely awful that our Father God hasn’t the capacity to forgive.[b]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:
1. Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”
You Lord, are called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of Your government and peace, there will be no end. You are establishing and upholding Your throne with justice and righteousness forever because the zeal of the Lord Almighty has accomplished this. [Isaiah 9:6-7]
2. Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Your concerns for today
Thank-You Lord that You are righteous in all Your ways and faithful in all You do. You are near to all who call on You – to all who call on You in truth. You fulfil the desires of those who fear You. You hear their cry and You save them. [Psalm 145:17-19]
3. Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”
Lord, the death You died, You died to sin once for all; but the life You live, You live for God. In the same way, help me now to count myself dead to sin but alive to God through Christ Jesus. [Romans 6:10-11]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”
Father God, You have shown me what is good. And what do You require of me but to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with You my God. [Micah 6:8]
“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
