29 October: Hollow Philosophy

With so much “thought” out there today, it’s difficult to know how to navigate through the array of philosophies and choose what “mast” we’re to “nail our colours to”…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

In recent decades, religion has become like a series of restaurants to choose from. Like ordering a coffee at Starbucks, I can tailor my belief system to whatever I want – including in it only the things that are pleasantly palatable, and rejecting everything else. The world seems filled now with theories and counter-theories delivered to us with fine-sounding arguments. [v4]

The question is: How can I see to it that no one takes me captive through hollow philosophy and empty deception, which depend on human tradition, according to the elementary principles of this world? [v8]

Today’s chapter shows that Humankind has an untreatable problem – it’s called “sin”. It would be easier for us to fly to the moon on feathered wings than succeed in fixing our basic problem of “sin”. Having said that, belief in your Maker isn’t a hollow philosophy, it’s plain and simple: Father God is in the business of dealing with the eradication of sin. In the process, His goal is that we’ll be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that we’ll have the full riches of complete understanding and know without doubt, the mystery of God. [v2] That we’ll uncover the location of His hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge. [v3] That those who seek Him, will be rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith and overflowing with thankfulness. [v7]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

I want to be like King David, Lord. He praised You in the presence of the whole assembly. Praise be to You, Lord, my God and my Father from everlasting to everlasting. [1 Chronicles 29:10]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for God’s Grace on Somalia[b]
  • Your Nation: The homeless & poor in your country
  • Yourself: Love for fellow Believers
  • Your concerns for today
When I cried out to You, Lord, You heard my cry and sent Your “Angel” to bring me out of slavery. [Numbers 20:16]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Help me to be devoted to others in love, O God – to honour others above myself. [Romans 12:10]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

You, Father God, protect and preserve Your people. I’m counted among the blessed in the land. You won’t give me over to the desires of my foes. [Psalm 41:2]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”

When questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, Jesus spoke what was previously written in God’s Word.[c] So, the final section on this page is about memorizing the script through 10 topics.
