22 July: The Source of Trouble

We are now well into the 2nd decade since our only son passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, and without a medical reason why. On that day when our own private tsunami flooded in to sweep one of us away, silence prevailed over the question “Why?”…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

I can’t help but notice yet another cycle today as my 365 Breadcrumbs comes around to the story of Job in today’s chapter once again. In 2009, had no idea that 10 days after reading this chapter our world would be turned upside-down and inside-out, just as Job’s had done on that fateful day four millenniums ago. But while the age-old question “Why?” remains unanswered, the answer to the source of trouble is clear enough.

Glimpsing into the supernatural in today’s chapter (where angels as well as the Creator God exist in His Kingdom), one particular created being catches my attention: the fallen angel who is known as satan [v6-7], and his scornful distain for Job’s protection is more than palatable. [v9-11] But if my Maker is 100% good – as HIStory proves[a] – then my source of trouble comes only from the one who started trouble in the first place.[b]

So, on the morning of the 10th day when our own tornado hit us in 2009, I couldn’t help but see Job’s shocked face while satan’s contemptuous remarks seemed to float in the air all around me. It was a defining moment for me. In an instant, I knew I had one choice: to hold fast to my integrity, or else to curse God and die.[c] Kneeling face down on the carpet beside the body of my dead son, I chose to trust the One who gives and takes away…just as Job had done long before me. [v20-22]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

O Lord, You are my God! I’ll exalt You and give thanks to Your Name. For You’ve worked wonders – Your plans, formed long ago, are with perfect faithfulness. [Isaiah 25:1]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

The righteous cry and You, Lord ,hears them. You’re near to the broken hearted and You deliver us out of all their troubles by saving those who are crushed in spirit. [Psalm 34:17-18]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

I seek You Lord, along with the humble of the earth who carry out Your ordinances. I want to seek righteousness, seek humility. Perhaps then I’ll be hidden in the day of Your anger. [Zephaniah 2:3]

  4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

Thank-You Lord, that You have equipped me in every good thing, working in me the things that are pleasing in Your sight. To You be the glory forever and ever. Amen. [Hebrews 13:21]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
