17 November: What’s a “Godless” Society?

Most of us would be indignant at the accusation that we’re a “godless” society. But this letter, written two millenniums ago, shows what a Godless Society could look like…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

As I wake this morning to look out on the peace and tranquillity of my garden once again, the “divine peace” in the late-autumn sunlight, is only disturbed by a light breeze chilled with the onset of winter. In such quietude, I wonder what it would really be like to completely rid society of God and, of anything that’s worshiped?[a]

Paul’s second letter to Timothy, written in the 1st Century AD, shows how our lifestyles and community life here on earth, can be stripped of anything related to our Maker. But from what Paul writes in v1-7, it looks to me like hell on earth! Especially if the descriptions fit the characters of those closest to us and we’re the victim of their “freedom”! While it may be true that evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived [v13], as for me, I want to continue in what I’ve learnt and have become convinced of. [v14] Far from wanting a “godless society”, I’ve known from a young age, that the Creator’s Guidebook is able to make me “wise for salvation” through faith in Christ Jesus. [v15] Through HIStory, I’m confident that I’ll be thoroughly equipped for every good work. [v17]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

Just as the soil makes young plants come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so will You, Sovereign Lord, make righteousness and praise spring from all nations! [Isaiah 61:11]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for the people of Tanzania[d]
  • Your Nation: Doctors and Nursing Staff care
  • Yourself: Faithfulness with your time
  • Your concerns for today
Answer me when I call to You Father, my righteous God. Give me relief from my concerns. Have mercy and hear my prayer. [Psalm 4:1]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Hear from heaven, Lord, and forgive the sin of your servant. Teach me the right way to live, and send blessing on the land that You gave us for an inheritance. [1 Kings 8:36]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

Help me Lord, not to turn to the right or the left; keep my feet from evil. [Proverbs 4:27]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”

When questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, Jesus spoke what was previously written in God’s Word.[e] So, the final section on this page is about memorizing the script through 10 topics.
