15 December: Free Defence Lawyer

Today’s chapter gives us great news for a “no-brainer deal” offered to us in our mess……

READ 1 JOHN 2  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

With another day of news reports filling my BBC News home page, two things are sure. First, everything we hear isn’t the full story. There’ll always be a need to take in several sides before a full picture begins to form. The second sure thing today, was written into a first century letter then preserved especially for us to read almost 2,000 years later:

“…I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” [v1-2]

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, will be finally told about you, and about me before the Universal Judge of the whole world, our Maker – the Creator who created us all. Then, the defence will be put forward. But our defence isn’t in the hands of an expensive lawyer who may, or may not, win our case. Our defence is in the hands of “the Righteous One” who not only knew the Law but He fulfilled the Law when He came to be the Creator God’s atoning sacrifice[a]

In a world that seems to be based on lies, half-truths and partial information that, at best is only “beyond reasonable doubt”, I thank You God for indiscriminately providing freely, a perfect Defence Advocate for us all this Christmas. The true light is already shining. [v8] ….Read More? … CLICK to follow “15 December – Additional Notes”

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Great are You Lord and most worthy of praise. You are to be feared above all gods. [1 Chronicles 16:25]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • Your concerns for today
In my distress I called to the Lord, and He answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and You listened to my cry. [Jonah 2:2]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Father, I know I’ve done wrong because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. [Romans 3:23]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Sovereign Lord, You are my strength. You make my feet like the feet of a deer, enabling me to tread on the heights. [Habakkuk 3:19]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Topic = Spiritual Conflict
