Going about life in the 21st Century, it’s hard to believe what “transcendent power” could mean to me and, if it exists at all, what would it look like if channelled into compassionate love…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Any time I read a story like this one in today’s chapter, for example, I’m reminded of the loss of my own dear son. [v21-24; v35-42] And yet, at the same time, I’m caught by this “walking example” of unlimited, supernatural, transcendent power displayed in three ways. This seemingly ordinary 1st Century carpenter, in today’s chapter, had power over the spirit world [v9]; over the physical world [v25]; and over the underworld. [v41-42] But while all this is fantastically astounding, there’s yet something else woven through it all, which is a greater example still, of a power that transcends everything else…
It’s as if all the unimaginable power of the Creator God, is deliberately harnessed, then focused into a single laser beam of unadulterated compassionate love. Jesus showed unlimited compassion, when He clothed the demoniac and restored him to his right mind. [v15] He showed unrestrained love, when He called a social outcaste: “daughter”. [v34] Finally, He showed transcendent power through infinite grace, when He restored LIFE to a female child – two things that put her into the category of “least important” in her culture.
Our Maker wants to bring transformational change to my life today too. His transcendent power is not likely to be as startling as the changes seen in the life of the madman, in today’s chapter. But wherever I am on my journey through this life, that same power has been given to empower me everyday to become an image of Himself…

3. Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”
Open for me the gates of Your righteousness, Father God, and I’ll enter in and give thanks to You. [Psalm 118:19]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”
Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that You’ve brought me this far by Your grace? [1 Chronicles 17:16]
