A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
When our son passed away, suddenly, unexpectedly, and without a medical reason why, I couldn’t imagine at all how anything good could come from it.[a] I could see how many people, after being left mystified by the experience of some of the most horrific events, wholeheartedly believe the saying: “Life is sh*t and then you die.”
Today’s chapter, on the other hand (from a 1st Century letter written to people living in the Roman post city of Corinth), tells me a different story. Attempting to speak wisdom to those who are mature, the Creator God has declared His wisdom into the confusion and chaos of events that this world produces. [v6] A mystery, hidden since the creation of the world, and that God destined for our glory before time began, has finally been revealed. [v7] None of the rulers of this age have understood it. [v8] So here’s the Good News: When life’s turned upside-down and our hearts are turned inside-out, Father God has sent His Holy Spirit in order to help us demystify the mystery. Jesus said: “Until now you’ve not asked for anything in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.” [John 16:24]
3. Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”
If I return to You, Father God, restore me so that before You I’ll stand. If I choose to extract the precious from the worthless, I’ll become Your spokesperson. Help me, for my part, turn to You and not to ways of others. [Jeremiah 15:19]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”
Thank-you Lord for the wisdom of Your Word every day, that “…a wise man is cautious and turns away from evil”. Help me not be a fool who is arrogant and careless. [Proverbs 14:16]
“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”
