02 October: Demystifying the Mystery

Today’s chapter is about how the Creator’s Mystery – that had been woven into the fabric of His creation before time began – has finally been revealed…

READ 1 CORINTHIANS 2  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

He stepped out onto the stage and I watched and listened in a way that I’ve never listened to a public speaker before. I, of course, was praying that his words would be great and that the audience would leave saying, “Wow – that was a really great night!” But, on the other hand (and not knowing at all what he was about to say), I was extremely nervous inside.

We’d been praying since 2010 about how to use Mikey’s savings that he’d left behind. He’d worked the last year of his life on less than ‘a shoe-string budget’ to save madly for worship school down in Coventry. After he passed away, all his belonging became important to us and his savings were almost sacred. Our girls had put us under strict orders not to spend it on ‘just anything’, and so the Michael Knight Trust was created. But although we’d supported a few young people in their own music training, the Trust seemed to be dormant and ready for something more.

In early 2012, the moment seemed to arrive and, before we’d even asked a few people for advice, we’d already received word that Stephen Baldwin (Hollywood actor, presenter, director and writer) would be interested in coming for our three-day skateboarding event and live show Mysterious? I wrote about this unexpected chain of events during 2012 in Chapter Twelve: Mysterious? in my second book Mysterious? …Expect the Unexpected

And so with all the skateboarding – and other events that were spread across three days – behind us, that Saturday Night (while I sat in the darkness, fixed nervously on every move Stephen made on that glowing stage), was THE BIG moment. We’d all be working hard for so many months and had 180 volunteers from 15 different churches who’d endorsed the event and, by their involvement, had put their own name to it. This was a sort of make-or-break moment for Mysterious?

Some of Stephen’s first words were from today’s chapter (1 Corinthians 2), and they made my skin tingle….

“We speak of God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.” [v7]

Unbelievable! In a single sentence everything that we’d been working for and everything that could have been said, was summed up in that one perfect moment in every way. Amen! to the God who has revealed to us the mystery of the glue that holds together the fabric of the universe. It’s a mystery that brings glory even to a nervous family sitting in the darkness among a thousand faces. I’m in tears this morning as I write. Nothing more can be said because God has demystified the mystery. Read more? … CLICK to follow “2 October – Additional Notes”

But what about your thoughts – can you tell me what today’s “breadcrumb” is? Leave a note in the “Comments” box below to tell me what you think God is saying to you, through today’s chapter.

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, His holy mountain. [Psalm 48:1]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: God’s mystery revealed to people in Peru[a]
  • Your Nation: Ministry of Gospel literature in your country
  • Yourself: Your spiritual growth
  • Your concerns for today
Jesus said: “Until now you’ve not asked for anything in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.” [John 16:24]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

This is what the God of Heaven and Earth says: ““If you return to me, then I’ll restore you—Before Me you’ll stand. If you choose to extract the precious from the worthless, you’ll become My spokesperson. As for others, for their part may they turn to you; but as for you, you must not turn to them.” [Jeremiah 15:19]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

Thank-you Lord for the wisdom of Your Word every day, that “…a wise man is cautious and turns away from evil”. Help me not be a “fool who is arrogant and careless”. [Proverbs 14:16]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”

THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Topic = A Good Caretaker

Jesus said: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” [Matthew 6:33]
