03 August: Pursuit of Happiness

In a season where accepting wisdom often seems to be second in line to our pursuit of happiness, today’s Proverb shows the rewards found in divine wisdom…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

In Pursuit of Happiness
In Pursuit of Happiness

I wonder what you would say if I told you that I knew the secret of happiness: how to prolong life; what brings sustained prosperity; how to win favour with those who matter; what really brings health and nourishment, even to your bones; or how to get your “barns” filled and your “vats” overflowing. In other words, what it would feel like to be truly “blessed”.

The secret is simple and it has been public knowledge for 4+ millennia. All we have to do is not forget the teaching in our Maker’s handbook. [v1] Let love and faithfulness never leave us [v3]; refuse to be wise in our own eyes but instead, shun evil, fear God, and honour the Creator with the first of everything we gain. [v9]

“Blessed are those who find Wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She’s more precious than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with her.” [v14-15]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

Thank-you Lord that You are upright. You’re my Rock and in You there’s no wickedness. [Psalm 92:15]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The world:  The suffering of Believers in North Korea[b]
  • Your nation:  Good working relationship between local churches
  • Yourself:  Sensitivity to ‘sin’
  • Your concerns for today
Whatever happens each day, Lord help me to remember that, as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are Your ways higher than my ways and Your thoughts higher than my thoughts. [Isaiah 55:9]

  3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Father, I’ve sinned greatly in what I’ve done – in thought and word and deed. Now, Lord, please take away my guilt because I’ve done very foolish things. [2 Samuel 24:10b]

   4.   Protect: “… Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in God’s house always. [Psalm 23:6]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[c] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year!
