A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Several months after our son died, a rumour had spread about him behind the scenes. The false accusation that had been constructed to explain what the trained pathologist and professional Coroner couldn’t explain – why our Michael died – was quite a different story. In just the same way, when David arrived at the army camp in today’s chapter, he arrived a teenage boy (just like our Michael) who was already singled out and chosen by God. He’d already been anointed King over Israel with the Holy Spirit powerfully upon him.[a] His oldest brother, however, burned with anger at him and accused him of having a conceited and wicked heart. [v28] Quite the opposite, David’s Creator said:
“I have found David son of Jesse, a man after My own heart; he’ll do everything I want him to do.” [Acts 13:22]
So Father God knew his son David through and through, just as He knew our own son Michael. Both played stringed instruments in praise of their Maker[b]; both were “ruddy and handsome” [v42] and both were chosen at a young age to enter into the service of their King. We can’t stop people from voicing what’s in their heart.[c] But if we’re victims of false accusations today, we need to be like David who chose to listen and believe the voice of truth…

What other nation is so great, Father God, as to have such righteous decrees and laws as this body of laws I have, set before me today? [Deuteronomy 4:8]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”
Help me not to reject You, O God. You’re the One who saves me out of all my disasters and calamities. [1 Samuel 10:19]
