30 June: Party Planning

If you’re wondering how to celebrate, today’s chapter is about a nation’s last great party…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Through the years, we’ve tried to celebrate the moments. It started early when our oldest daughter started school. I’d keep the party plates from birthdays then, every Friday, we’d hold a “Friday Night Video Night”. We were celebrating the end of the school week and the children home all week-end. After our son past away, Mark came up with a saying:

Create the moment; cherish the Moment; don’t take the moment for granted.

Most of us love party planning, so it’s the celebration in today’s chapter that catches my attention. The religious life of the Nation of Israel seemed to be wrapped around community parties. Since the Creator God dictated the rules for community life, I’d have to say He’s the ultimate party planner of all time. In fact, the theme behind this week-long national celebration, in today’s chapter, is “freedom from slavery” – unshackling Father God’s children, so that they’re free to Praise Him…

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I’ll sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I’ll make Your faithfulness know, through all generations. I’ll declare that Your love stands firm forever, that You’ve established Your faithfulness in heaven itself! [Psalm 89:1-2]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • Yourself: A desire to be more “Christ-like”[c]
  • Your concerns for today
You Lord are good, a refuge in times of trouble. You care for those who trust in You. [Nahum 1:7]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Help me, Father, to give careful thought to my ways today. Without You I plant much, but harvested little. I eat, but never have enough. I drink, but never have my fill. I put on clothes, but I’m not warm and I risk earning wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it. [Haggai 1:5-6]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

Thank-you, Lord, that the weapons I fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. [2 Corinthians 10:4]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
