A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Our daughter is hearing-impaired but, thankfully, she can speak and doesn’t need sign language. Had she not been able to speak, and fell into the old category of being “dumb” as well as deaf, it wouldn’t have affected her ability to get her university degree, which was achieved with determination. I also used the three terms in the title because of what caught my attention in today’s chapter.
Looking back to the days when I began processing the concept of the existence and involvement of the Creator God in everyday life, I think I can understand the terms: deaf, dumb and blind, and I could nail my problem to v2-4. I saw and experienced great trials; I’d been given signs that my Maker was alive and at work; I surveyed the great wonders of His creation and (beginning first with my car accident at 19), I’d come face-to-face with moments that, quite miraculously, defied physics, logic or the law of probability. Still, without a spiritual perspective, a had a speech impediment – without an ability to connect with my Maker. It was as if I were deaf, dumb and blind to the Creator God.
Now I know that it wasn’t actually possible for me to “follow the terms of the covenant” [v9] without God. For one thing, He’s given a level of perception to believe that an agreement exists in the first place. It’s a real agreement that the Creator has made on oath with humankind [v14] – not just with those standing there at the time, but also with anyone who wasn’t there. [v15] The secret things belong to God, but the things revealed now belongs to us and our children forever – in order that we’ll be able to follow our Maker’s Handbook to LIFE. [v29]
