A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
Sales offer advertising leaflets are regular post. But it hit me this morning that humans will often go out of our way to save a few pounds, euros or dollars, yet continue to refuse to be saved ourselves! We feel comfortable with being “dead”, for example, to the problem of “sin”[v1]; “dead to the need” for information about the existence and involvement of the Creator God; “dead to the desire” for any connection with the Lord, the Giver of LIFE. But today’s chapter holds really great news:
“…because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.” [v4,5]
If this ultimate free offer and gift from the Creator God [v8] isn’t Good News enough, at the blue-print stage when we were created “…we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”[v10] Once we were separated, excluded, foreigners of the promises of God and without hope. [v11] BUT NOW “…in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have now been brought near.” [v12] This ultimate free offer is only just beginning…
