A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Almost two millenniums after this letter was written to people in the wealthy Roman port city of Corinth, it seems that we’ve not developed into a super-race where bigger is not always better. And better (according to our judgements), is not always best. It seems to me that I’ve still not evolved enough so that my inability to measure worth is behind me forever. I still have to stand firm, for example, with people who have false opinions about me. [v2] My confidence is still about the group that I belong to. [v7] I still struggle to get the right messages out, because I put appearances first. [v9-11]

While some may frown upon the “backward” use of imperial measurements in Britain, they still use measuring scales that were used in ancient times: they measure themselves by themselves and judge worth by what they themselves are. [v12] All in all, we still seem to be at odds with each other, at odds with ourselves and, at odds with our Maker because of the scales we’re standing on

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in Heaven, how great is Your name! Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven…”

The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Saviour! [2 Samuel 22:47]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Jesus said, “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” [John 16:23]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Without the help of Your Holy Spirit, Father God, I’d become utterly corrupt and turn from the way that You’ve commanded me. Disaster will fall on me because of the evil I do in Your sight. So, help me not to arouse Your anger by the work of my hands. [Deuteronomy 31:29]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one…”

In You, O God, whose Word I praise – in You I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? [Psalm 56:4]

“ For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory for ever and ever. Amen”

When questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, Jesus spoke what was previously written in God’s Word.[c] So, the final section on this page is about memorizing the script through 10 topics.
