13 January: The Great Escape

Today’s chapter holds an event that’s lingered at the back of my mind for more than forty years – the night before disaster struck…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Just as it was in the days of Noah, the level of corruption had hit an all-time high. For the sake of the outcry, it became necessary for the Judge of all the World to step in. [v25]  So what caught my eye this morning was the fact that the Creator came in response to an outcry. [v20-21]

Saved - Ahead of the Storm
Saved – Ahead of the Storm

Through the conversation with Abraham, the Creator shows Himself to be concerned for the righteous. He has and will avert judgement for the sake of the righteous. In addition, He’ll provide an escape for those who follow His lead – even if this means taking His people firmly by the hand and leading them physically out of that environment.[a]

So when people wonder today where God is and why He’s seemingly not involved – some may even be scoffing that He won’t come as He said He would[b] – it may be that there’s not an outcry to precipitate it.

“Lord help me to use this new year to send up an outcry to you. There are too many victims, too many being abused, too many being sold into the sex trade, too many being exploited with lies and false hope.” Read More… CLICK on “13 January – Additional Notes”

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

    1.    Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Lord, You are the one I praise. You are my God, who performed for me great wonders that I saw with my own eyes. [Deuteronomy 10:21]

    2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Lord help me to use whatever gift I’ve received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace as it come in its various forms. [1 Peter 4:10]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Lord, please don’t rebuke me in anger, nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I’m pining away. Heal me, for even my bones are distressed. [Psalm 6:1-2]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disappointed.” [Isaiah 28:16]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
