27 June: Housebuilding DIY

From mid-spring through to the summer months, many across the UK will turn their hands to DIY jobs around the house. But today’s chapter covers a house build DIY job that’s out of this world!

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

While in Australia one time, a friend showed us the plans for their DIY house building project. I was amazed that after settling on an architectural plan, you can order all the bits you need for the structure and Do It Yourself, like a sort of massive Meccano construction set!

When King David of Israel in today’s chapter, had a rather noble idea of building a house for the Creator God, the response back was disappointing. There was never a time in all of HIStory that the Lord of Creation – who has heaven as His throne and earth as His footstool[a] – had ever asked for a house. [v4-6] On the contrary, like most important things, if you want a good job done right, you’re likely to Do It Yourself. In this case, our Perfect Maker requires a 100% perfect job for His universal initiative with everlasting outcomes. Therefore, the Creator God Himself set about a housebuilding DIY job that’s out of this world! [v10b] He has done it through the one He called: “My Son”. [v13] He then set this One over His House and over His Kingdom forever! [v14]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I’ll praise You, Lord, within me, because You’re righteous and do no wrong! Morning by morning You dispense Your justice, and every new day You do not fail! [Zephaniah 3:5]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for political stability in India[c]
  • Your Country’s response to the needs in Africa
  • Yourself: Wisdom for decision-making
  • Your concerns for today
While I look for answered prayer today, Lord, help me not forget that Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding. This is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. [Proverbs 3:13-14]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

As I go about my daily choices, Father God, help me to love You with all my heart, understanding and strength, and to love my neighbour in the same way that I’d “love myself”. This is more important to You than all religious offerings and sacrifices. [Mark 12:31]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

One thing I ask from You Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in Your house all the days of my life, to gaze on Your beauty and to seek You in Your dwelling place. [Psalm 27:4]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, Jesus spoke what was previously written in God’s Word.[d] So, the final section on this page is about memorizing the script through 10 topics.
