26 January: When Execution Is An Option

When life-storms hit, it may be worth noting that few of us live in a country where genocide is the order of the day, and execution for disobedience is a very real possibility. Today’s chapter is a story of unimaginable courage when faced with a choice to kill or be killed…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

When our daughter studied nursing, we were introduced to a whole new set of her friends. They were young, single, and had their lives ahead of them. Their choice: to help care for people when they need it most. And just like our daughter, the girls in today’s chapter from The Book of The Exodus (set in Ancient Egypt 3,500+ years ago) had started their day in much the same way. However, on their way to work as midwives, they were caught up in a nightmare with only two ways out: to kill or to be killed. To live or to die. [v17] Yet neither one could mercilessly destroy the life of a newborn baby boy who had been created in the image of their Creator God.[a]

As sophisticated as Ancient Egypt was, it wasn’t immune to the incubation of atrocities. So then, if genocide and execution is to be part of my story, or the story of our girls in the future – as it has been predicted[b] – one thing is true: if we don’t develop Godly character in peacetime, we’ll not to be prepared for right choices in a time of war.

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Because of everything that You have done for me, Lord, I will praise You among the nations. I’ll sing the praises of Your Holy Name. [2 Samuel 22:50]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

As for me—a foreigner who isn’t connected by birth to Your people, but has come from a distant land because of Your great name, Your mighty hand, and Your outstretched arm—when I come and pray, please hear from heaven, Your dwelling place. Do whatever I asks of You, Lord, so that all people on earth may know Your name and fear You, as Your own people do. [2 Chronicles 6:32-33]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

I have not departed from Your laws, Father God, because it’s been You Yourself who has taught me. [Psalm 119:102]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

Lord, help me to remember that my faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through Your words. [Romans 10:17]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked, or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[e] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year!
