22 January: Quick Judgements

Today’s chapter shows how important it is not to make quick judgements, or make a move in any direction without the full story…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Living With Confusion

Living With Confusion

Looking at today’s chapter, I can’t help but notice the story behind the story. With the benefit now of hindsight, I could tell Joseph that his brothers had changed, and that the Creator of the script had done all this for the future of a nation.[a]  How we could all do with hindsight! But Joseph’s behaviour remains an example even for us today. First, he remembered what his God had said in the past. [v9]  He then gave it three days – so that he could pick his way carefully through a personal minefield as his life-storm continues. [v17-18]

When things go wrong in my life, or not according to my plans, I don’t want to make quick judgements, or retaliate in the confusion of how things were playing out. Instead, I want to go back to the last “signpost” that I had from my Maker, then trust Him for His bigger picture.

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters. He makes the clouds His chariot and rides on the wings of the wind.  [Psalm 104:2-3]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous. [Proverbs 15:29]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

As I make my daily choices, Lord, help me to remember that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 6:23]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Father, thank-you for bringing me out from under the yoke of slavery. You’ve redeemed me with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. [Exodus 6:6]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
