20 June: The Ever-Present God

After secret military tactics seemed to be leaked time and again, the King of Aram discovered just how difficult it was to ambush the Omnipresent (ever-present) Creator God…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

When I was young, I loved to sit high in the branches of a large Hicks Fancy (Morus nigra) mulberry tree in a friend’s garden in Australia, and eat their mulberries. Problem was, Mum would get cross at us for spoiling our dinner. One day, after gorging ourselves on plump, juicy mulberries, we showed up for dinner. But we were met with a very upset Mum who immediately asked, “Have you been eating mulberries again?!”

With our stained hands in our pockets, and the most innocent of faces we could possibly model, we quickly responded: “No Mum, we’ve not been eating mulberries!” What we didn’t realise was that our teeth, lips, tongues and all around our mouths were stained with a deep purple/red colour! It was dead obvious what we’d been up to, and very childish of us to try “pulling the wool over our Mum’s eyes” by lying about it!

And yet, unless we learn from our past, we’ll carry childish behaviour into our adult life and into our relationship with our Father God. Although humans may not know the truth of what we’re lying about, our Omnipresent Maker – who is always present everywhere 100% of the time – knows everything! Because He’s right there when it happened, nothing’s hidden from Him. [v8-12] He sees what’s done in secret.[a] But rather than living our lives in opposition to Him (trying to hide things from Him), like the King of Aram, He wants to be there for us – as He was for Elisha. The God of Angel Armies is on our side…

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I praise You Lord because You’ve stretched out Your right hand, and the earth swallows Your enemies. In Your unfailing love, You’ll lead the people You’ve redeemed. In Your strength, You’ll guide me to Your holy dwelling. [Exodus 15:12-13]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • Your concerns for today
What other nation is so great as to have their gods near them in the way that You, Lord my God, is near to me whenever I pray to You?  [Deuteronomy 4:7]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Since I love life and desire to see many good days, help me, Father God, to keep my tongue from evil and my lips from telling lies. Help me to turn from evil and do good; to seek peace and pursue it. [Psalm 34:12-14]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Now to You, Lord, who’s able to establish me  in accordance with Your gospel (the message proclaimed in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all people everywhere might come to the obedience that comes from faith), to You, Lord, the only wise God, be glory and praise forever. Amen! [Romans 16:25-27]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
