20 January: The Great Tribulation

At a time where peace and prosperity seems to fill the expectations of most people, particularly in the West, today’s chapter shows how trusting the Creator God isn’t a formula for a perfect life…

When Life's Little More Than Slavery

Where’s God When Life is Slavery?

One fallacy that’s surfaced in recent years is the idea that God wants us happy or God wants to bless us. Implicitly, this translates as: “a near perfect life”. It’s a concept that stems from the fact that the Creator God can move mountains. But Joseph’s story today shows me how He gives His people grace to climb mountains.

In my second book Mysterious? …Expect the unexpected… I’d hoped to show the progression of strength that’s gained in time through hearing God in the storm.[a]  My own life experience has shown me that our Maker doesn’t “hit us with the great tribulation” without carefully preparing us over time. He does this not just so that we’ll survive it, but so we’ll eventually leave the wilderness with power.

While all that may sound great in writing (and perhaps even a good excuse for why an apparently good God is allowing bad things to happen to good people), is it at all true in practice? I say it is. Not just because I see the Creator at work in Joseph’s story, as it goes from bad to worse with no light at all at the end of the tunnel, but because I’ve seen His grace at work inside my own storms. …Read More… CLICK on “20 January – Additional Notes”

Wanting to speak directly with your Maker? The rest of this webpage uses Jesus’ own prayer to help…

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

My heart is steadfast towards You, O God. I will sing, I will sing praises to You even with my soul. [Psalm 108:1]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Now, O my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in Your presence. [2 Chronicles 6:40]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Lord, help me to repent of this wickedness of mine. I pray to You that, if possible, the intention of my heart may be forgiven me. [Acts 8:22]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

In my behaviour and choices today, help me not to reject the God who delivers us from all our calamities and our distresses. [1 Samuel 10:19]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
