13 August: LIFE Beyond the Grave

If you’re wondering whether it’s possible to see life spring from a grave, this spine-tingling vision from an ancient prophet would have to be the wildest dream ever recorded…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

I read this chapter when I woke up to the first day of the rest of my life – the morning after we buried our son – and I wrote about it on the last pages of my second book Mysterious? …Expect the Unexpected. It’s a vision designed to give refugees and exiles HOPE while they live in a valley that’s, metaphorically, nothing but dry bones [v1], though I can’t help but see our future hope in each line.

Bizarrely enough, and true to His 100% nature, the Creator God has promised to go 100% out of His way to open our graves, bringing LIFE beyond the grave! [v12-13] From the beginning, the Lord of Life has had the capacity to bring LIFE to something that’s completely lifeless, a formless emptiness.[a] So in showing me this valley of dry bones, Father God is telling me that He’s in the business of life beyond the graveyard of buried hopes. When it feels like my bones are dried up, my hope is gone, and I’m cut off [v11], instead of trying to hold on, I can instead be pulled together and held in place by Him

As I look around the world today, Lord, help me to understand and trust You when Your thoughts are not our thoughts, and our ways and not Your ways. [Isaiah 55:8]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Even now, Father God, help me to return to You with all my heart: with fasting, weeping and mourning. May I know what it means to “rend my heart and not my garments” while there is still time. [Joel 2:12]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

You, Lord, are able to keep me from stumbling. You’ll present me before Your glorious presence without fault and with great joy. [Jude 1:24]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
