13 April: The Fountain of Youth

With an almost universal desire to push back the tides of time with anti-aging treatments, Botox and plastic surgery, this chapter holds the secret to Eternal LIFE…

READ JOHN 4  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

While humanity seeks a satisfaction quenched by anything and everything – from the elusive answers for the universe in a Big Bang theory, or a formula for the Fountain of Youth (and hopefully before another wrinkle becomes visible in the family photos) – Jesus said to the Samaritan lady:

“If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.” [v10]  “Everyone who drinks (natural spring) water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water that I give them will never thirst again. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to Eternal LIFE.” [v13-14]

The One who can turn water into wine [v46] is the same One who walked on water[a], calmed the stormy sea[b], and said:  “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of LIFE.”[c]

Finding it hard to talk to the Lord of LIFE? The rest of this chapter uses Jesus’ own prayer to help…[d]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

The planets speak of the glorious splendour of Your majesty—and I’ll meditate on Your wonderful works. The Universe tells of the power of Your awesome works—and I’ll proclaim Your great deeds. [Psalm 145:5-6]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for China’s influence on the globe[e]
  • Your Country: County/State/National leaders
  • Yourself: Love for fellow Believers
  • Your concerns for today
In answer to my prayer, Lord, You lead the blind by ways they’ve not known. Along unfamiliar paths, You guide me. You turn the darkness into light before me and make the rough places smooth. These are the things You do and You’ll not forsake me. [Isaiah 42:16]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

My heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure, O God. Who can understand it? You, Lord, search the heart and examine the mind. You reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve. [Jeremiah 17:9-10]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

May I approach Your throne of grace with confidence, Father God, so that I may receive mercy and find grace to help me in my time of need. [Hebrews 4:16]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[f] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year! THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: An Assured Future
