A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

As far back as the days when humans first named the animals, we’ve had freedom to choose (regardless of how ridiculous it sounds) and, that choice comes stamped with the highest authority.[a] The idea of making conscious decisions over choice, seems to be inherently built into the DNA of what makes humankind rulers.[b]  The easiest way for our Maker to see that we’re living up to our design (built in the image of the Creator God and in His Likeness – to be like Him), is in the way we rule over our choices. So today’s chapter is “a line in the sand” and, even after 3½ millenniums, it’s still about the greatest choice anyone could ever make…

“…if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom You will serve… as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” [v15]

The fact that this story is preserved for me to read in minute detail, 34 centuries +/- after it happened, tells me that it has to be important. The Creator God requires a choice from every one of His Image-bearers. Is it desirable, or is it undesirable, to us that we should be like Him? Because seeking Him, and wanting to be like Him, is our first free choice

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

No one is like You, Lord! You’re great and Your Name is mighty in power. Who should not fear You, King of the nations because this is Your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there’s none like You. [Jeremiah 10:6-7]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: The people of Czech Republic[d]
  • Your Country: Those trapped in the slave trade
  • Your choices towards Moral Excellence
  • Your concerns for today
I pray to You, Lord, in the time of Your favour. In Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. [Psalm 69:13]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Lord, the great and awesome God, You keep Your covenant of love with those who love You and keep Your commandments. But I’ve sinned and done wrong. I’ve been wicked and have rebelled. Now I’m not making requests of You because I’m righteous, but because of Your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive!  [Daniel 9:4-5,18-19]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

You’re the light of the world, O Lord. Whoever follows You will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. [John 8:12]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
