A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
When looking at new Futures and Options the outlook is always a hopeful positive, without encountering the unexpected. But until our only son passed away suddenly, unexpectedly, and without a medical reason why, when he was eighteen, I didn’t realise just how easy it is to “meet your end”. On the whole, however, the unexpected will surely only ever happen to someone else. So the topic can be shelved in preference to a plan that includes a long, happy and uneventful life. The same tack is often taken when contemplating the future of the planet. We watch movies like The Day After Tomorrow or 2012, but it’s only Hollywood – Isn’t it?
In reality, when looking at our future, Scientists are fully aware that our planet is only temporal. For one thing there isn’t an unlimited amount of hydrogen in the core of the Sun. When the sun’s Life Cycle begins to draw to a close, Planet Earth will certainly be negatively affected.
But two things interested me from today’s chapter, written in a first century letter by a fisherman friend of Jesus. Firstly, the return of the Ice Age (from the movie The Day After Tomorrow), a global flood (like in the movie 2012), or being hit by an asteroid (like in the movie Armageddon), isn’t a future that’s predicted by the Creator God. [v7, 10,12b] Secondly, and most importantly, Peter wrote his letter (and Father God miraculously preserved it) not so that we’d have a scientific analysis of our preferred future but to give us preferred options.
With our end in sight, whether global or personal, what option have I for the kind of a person I ought to be? I ought to live a holy and godly life [v11], as I look forward to the Day of God and speed its coming. [v12] Why? Because according to the Creator’s promises, my future includes new heavens and a new earth, in which only righteousness dwells. [v13] Read More? … CLICK to follow “13 December – Additional Notes”
