When it’s time to leave and move on, passing the baton well is essential not just for your closure, but for those you leave behind. Today’s chapter covers the instructions for an inner circle of friends and family from a man about to die…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
During 2023, we were given the privilege of setting up a new community and like Moses in today’s chapter, we handed it over and walked away. While most people may never experience setting up something new, all of us will “move on” one day, just as Moses did. So I wonder what I would do to transition well, if it were my last days on earth.
While passing on the baton in today’s chapter, Moses is drumming into this newly formed Nation of Israel some things that are still important for me today. First, it seems that it’s not enough to know and believe in my head that God exists (or that He has a plan with a place that He is leading me to), it has to drop into my heart. [v5-6] This in turn shouldn’t just affect my behaviour and personal lifestyle – it must have a knock-on effect in the advice that I hand on to others. [v7-9] Because once it penetrates the culture of my family, and influences those around me… “Then it shall come about that…” [v10]
In other words if I were to pass on a baton, I would and should be interested in what’s being passed on, what’s being received, what’s being dropped, and if the transition is done well. Our Maker’s Global MasterPlan was always about bringing us out, in order to bring us in [v23], and so I too will observe His statutes and fear the Lord my God, because it’s for my good always and for my survival. [v24].…Read More… CLICK on “20 February – Additional Notes”
