07 August: Connecting with the Creator

If there’s any mystery at all today, I have to say it’s: How on earth can we connect in any way with the divine?

READ ISAIAH 6  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

What I notice, from reading Isaiah’s vision today, is that (like Job before him) Isaiah gets a close encounter with the Living God, and it’s pretty scary! [v1-4] But three things are worth mentioning:

(a)    As soon as a divine connection is made, Isaiah’s first response is to “cry out in shame” because of what he, and his countrymen, say and do. [v5]
(b)    But what’s lovely, is that the Creator God acts swiftly for those who truly repent – those who want to permanently change their ways. Without condemning or judging, Isaiah’s Maker immediately moves in to make Isaiah feel better. [v6-7]
(c)    Once that ‘hiccup’ is swiftly sorted – and it clearly doesn’t take much at all to get his “sins” forgiven – the Creator wants to get straight on with His Global Master Plan. For the greatest of task ever to be given to a screwed-up-human-being, Isaiah is asked to be God’s messenger – His Word and His light– to the world around him! [v8-9]

Now if any of this has any relevance at all for me today, it tells me that (as scary as it may seem at first glance) connecting with my Creator has only ever been as easy as “a b c”.

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

May I taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the one who takes up their refuge in Him. [Psalm 34:8]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • Your concerns for today
You Lord, give wisdom, and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. You store up success for the upright and You shield those who walk with integrity. [Proverbs 2:6-7]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Lord God, Maker of Heaven and Earth, thank-you that after we confess our sin, and turn from our old way of life, there’s no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Thank-you that through His one perfect sacrifice, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set me free from the law of sin and death. [Romans 8:1-2]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”

You’ve been a refuge for the poor, Father God, a refuge for the needy in their distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. But the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall. [Isaiah 25:4]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[c] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year! THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Topic = Prayer
