Three millenniums have passed, since this song/poem (below) was written, yet the issue of “good things happening to bad people while bad things happen to good people” continues to unsettle us…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
After weeks of waiting, our friends from Australia finally arrived! We settled them into their room and put the kettle on. But no sooner had we got through the small-talk about their trip through Europe and England, Rod dropped the bomb-shell! The brain tumour, that had been previously cut out, was now back and growing fast. He’s just 55. And so, their tour trip to see extended family and enjoy their “once in a lifetime” holiday, may literally be once now in their lifetime together.
Three times King David of Israel, in today’s Psalm, tells himself and his listeners, not to fret [v1,7&8]. Trust in the Lord and do good [v3] because He will give you the desires of your heart. [v4] He will make your righteousness shine like the sun. [v6] The Lord upholds the righteous [v17], their days are known by Him. [v18] If the Lord delights in a person’s ways, He makes their steps firm, though he/she may stumble, they will not fall. [v23-24] This is because salvation for the righteous comes from the Lord, who helps us and delivers us. He is our stronghold in times of trouble. [v39&40] Therefore, with my heart fixed on my Maker, I’ll try not to fret!
