In an age where most relationships end in tears, today’s chapter describes one relationship that’s unbroken by time because it exists as a “Covenant of Love”…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:
A common reason why people don’t bother reading the Creator God’s Handbook for Life, is because they just don’t get it. For one thing, the detail in the storyline makes it difficult to connect what it has to do with us today! With that said, however, I’ve noticed that Nehemiah’s description of the Creator God’s “Covenant of Love” in today’s chapter, seems to parallel the story of my own relationship with my Maker.
When I was hungry, He provided for my physical needs; and when I was spiritually and emotionally thirsty, He gave me water from a rock – refreshment for my soul in the hardest times. [v15] His Good Spirit instructs me, and He has not withheld from me His manna – the “spiritual food” of His Word. [v20] In ‘my wanderings’ over the past 40 years, I’ve lacked nothing. My feet haven’t swollen from the journey that He has taken me on. [v21] Regardless of how I’ve disobeyed and rebelled against His commands [v26], sinning against His “ordinances” though these, if they’re obeyed, are from where LIFE comes [v29]; and regardless of stubbornly turning my back (becoming stiff-necked and refusing to listen), my Creator God has been patient and by His Holy Spirit, He disciplines me. [v30] Therefore I’ll say:
“O my God – the great, mighty and awesome God – You’ve kept Your ‘Covenant of Love’ with me. [v32] In all that’s happened to me, You’ve been just. You’ve acted faithfully, even while I did wrong.” [v33]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:
1. Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”
I’ll give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I’ll sing praises to You among the nations. Your loving-kindness is as great as the heavens and Your truth as high as the clouds. [Psalm 57:9-10]
2. Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

If I’m kind to the poor, Lord, it’s as if I’m lending to You and You’ll reward me for what I’ve done. [Proverbs 19:17]
3. Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”
If I sin, I have an advocate with You Father: Jesus Christ the Righteous One. He has paid the cost for my sin and not only mine, but also for the whole world! [1 John 2:1-26]
4. Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.”
Thank-you for what You’re planning for Your people, Father God. Your presence will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. [Isaiah 4:6]
“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
