21 May: Knowing God

If you’re wondering how any human can actually know, personally know their Creator God, today’s chapter holds an ancient clue…

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

After travelling to more than 80 countries over three decades, I’ve noticed a wide-spread question – regardless of culture or language. Humanity is wondering if anyone can seriously “know God”. If we can’t know Him personally, then how can we fulfil His first and greatest commandment: to love Him?[a]  Well, through the experience of a little boy named Samuel, today’s chapter gives us our greatest clue…

“Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” [v7] “The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there He revealed Himself to Samuel through His word.” [v21]

Bizarrely enough, although 2,900+ years have passed by since the events in this chapter took place, this vital clue tucked away in the narrative of HIStory, remains our key even today for knowing our Maker. Unlike Samuel, we now have 66 books recording messages, visions and experiences from more than 40 authors spanning 1,500+ years. If I want to know my Maker today, there’s no short-cuts. He’s only ever revealed Himself through His written word, spoken word, and Living Word…

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You Lord, are God! [Psalm 90:2]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: The Faeroe Islands[c] and Falkland Islands[d]
  • Your Country: Those gripped with credit card debt
  • Yourself: Ability to choose right living
  • Your concerns for today
Thank-you Lord that You will guide me always. You’ll satisfy my needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen my frame. I’ll be like a well-watered garden; like a spring whose waters never fail. [Isaiah 58:11]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Help me to turn from my wicked ways, O God, and reform my actions. I don’t want to follow the “gods” of this world to serve them. I want to live in the land of blessing and pay attention and listen to You. [Jeremiah 35:15]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Help me, Father God, to watch and pray so that I’ll not fall into temptation. My spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak. [Matthew 26:41]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[e] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year!  THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Serving Others
