10 March: The Red Carpet

It seems apparent that one thing remains constant in time: the fascination with the “in crowd” and who are the stars on the red carpet…

READ MARK 3  Make notes, if you’d like, of what stands out for you. Feel free to use the “Leave a Comment” box below to also write some of your thoughts.

When getting my hair cut the other day, I reached for the latest “Hello” magazine while I waited my turn. I never buy these magazines. But I notice how I don’t hesitate to leaf through them at the hairdresser or doctor’s waiting room. When our daughters were young, I’d warn them not to waste their money on trashy magazines or aspire to be like those in the “in crowd”. Yet somehow, I too am sucked into to at least looking at the pictures of who’s who, whenever a discarded magazine is within arm’s reach.

Today’s chapter includes a “red carpet moment” when Jesus chooses twelve close friends from among the hundreds who are already following Him around. Amazingly, they’re not the “who’s who” of ancient nobility. Just as Jesus “…had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him and nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him…”[a], His disciples weren’t anyone special from the red carpet either. As HIStory progresses, it seems clear to me that the Creator God purposefully avoids the red carpet and, instead, uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things through them.[b]

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

Arise, shine, for your light has come! The glory of the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you. To the honour of the Lord your God, He has endowed you with splendour! [Isaiah 60:1,2b,9b]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

  • The World: Pray for the people of Bhutan[d]
  • Your Country: Mission events and outreaches
  • Yourself: Strength for Obedience
  • Your concerns for today
Lord, I pray that those I love will enjoy good health and that all may go well with them; and not just for that but that their soul is getting along well. [3 John 1:2]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Father, if I turn back to You with all my heart and soul in the land of my captivity, and if I pray to You, then from heaven, your dwelling place, hear my prayer and my plea. Uphold my cause and forgive Your people, who’ve sinned against You. [2 Chronicles 6:38-39]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

The Lord will keep me from all harm and will watch over my life. The Lord will watch over my coming and going both now and forevermore. [Psalm 121:7-8]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”
