A THOUGHT FOR TODAY:

Reaching the top in whatever field is a natural human desire. But the idea of how to rise to greatness is also connected to what’s known as The Fall.[a] Ever since Genesis Chapter Three, humankind has wanted pre-eminence: to rule their world and their own lives, but that wasn’t what we were designed to do.[b] In fact, this was the cause of satan’s downfall when he said in his heart, “I’ll ascend to the heavens and raise my throne above the stars of God… I’ll ascend above the tops of the clouds and I’ll make myself like the Most High.”[c]

During the last supper that Jesus had with His friends, an argument broke out over who was greatest. [v24] But Jesus turned human convention on its head when He told them, “The kings of the world lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them who are called ‘Benefactors’. But not so with you! Instead, the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.” [v25-26]

THE LORD’S PRAYER:

   1.   Praise: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your Kingdom come! Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven …”

I’ll make mention of the loving kindnesses of You, Lord. I’ll praise You according to all that You’ve granted us – Your great goodness toward us all. You’ve granted this according to Your compassion and according to the abundance of Your loving kindnesses! [Isaiah 63:7]

   2.   Ask: “…Give us today our daily bread…”

Righteous are You, O Lord, that I would plead my case with You. Indeed, I can discuss matters of justice with You. So why then has the way of the wicked prospered? Why Lord, are all those who deal in treachery living at ease? [Jeremiah 12:1]

   3.   Admit: “…Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us…”

Hate evil, you who love the Lord. He preserves the souls of His godly ones. He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light is sown like seed for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart. [Psalm 97:10-11]

   4.   Protect: “…Lead us not into temptation but delivers us from evil.”

Jesus said: “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.” [John 6:37]

“For Yours Lord is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory now and forever. Amen!”

When Jesus was questioned, tested, tricked or in His hour of great need, He always spoke things that were previously written in God’s Word.[f] Following these memory verses from ten topics, will help you learn 52 verses from the bible in a year! THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE: Giving God’s Good News
